State v Gregory: Judicial Abolition Achieved in Washington October 11th 2018
On October 11th 2018 the Washington State Supreme Court declared Washington's death penalty unconstitutional as applied.
The case was heard in January 2016. WCADP submitted an amicus brief.
in January 2018 WCADP submitted a supplemental amicus brief.
The court's ruling was largely based on the report by Katherine Beckett and Heather Evans, which found that juries were more than four times more likely to impose a death sentence when the defendant was Black than in cases involving similarly situated non-Black defendants.
